In my experience many folks who do not need to be aggressive in their yoga practice, gravitate towards Ashtanga to further their self destructice, misaligned and punishing attitudes towards Self. 

This is an incorrect perception of the intended curative practice of Ashtanga.  My teacher, Melanie Fawer, who was one of the first women sanctified by Pattabhi Jois to teach Ashtanga, cued a generous and positive attitude to meet every person where they are. 

Ashtanga's pure focus and form proves to be an undistracted homage to the innate grace of every individual seeking greater ease and peace. We will practice Sun Salutations A & B, rotate thru several standing poses, seated postures and the finishing sequence of the Primary Series.
